Throttle Sticking... Please Help

Postby sadiqsadiq » Wed May 02, 2012 8:26 pm

Went for a short ride today. Noticed the tach was going up without me even touching the throttle. I pulled over thinking maybe the idle got adjusted somehow or thinking the throttle cable may have been getting pinched or the cables were tight. Both turned out to be fine. Managed to get Babe home but I had to twist the throttle forward just to get it to idle. I have read about a spring in the throttle body getting corroded but honestly I have no idea. Anyone had something similar?

If the bike is off and you turn the throttle then let go, does it spring back at all, or just sit where you let go?
With enough profanity, you can accomplish anything.

Nope it has good action to it. It snaps right back.

All the way closed or *almost* there? If it were me, I'd start by oiling the cables and double/triple checking for anything that could he rubbing or binding on the grip, throttle tube, cables, or where the cables attach under the tank. If that all looks good, you may be on the right track with the spring idea.
